I'll find my way to Neverland |
MILES IN 2013 (in progress): 87 miles The name's Lena. Born and raised in NYC - it's a love-hate relationship but it's home. 18, currently an undergrad at a school in Maryland, though. 5'4" Female. -Vegetarian- This used to be my health blog, now it's my personal AND health. I post recipes, workouts, updates on my health and fitness goals, pictures I like, ramblings, nerdy comic stuff, Legend of Korra/Avatar, Disney, Peter Pan, Young Justice, articles I find interesting, progression of my athletic endeavors (worded that oddly lol) and anything health/body-image related. I jump around a lot but hey.... |
Today for instance:
I woke up to my alarm and was on the verge of smashing it. I honestly had no clue what that screeching noise was and had screamed a whole slew of vulagarities (all in my head of course; I didn’t want to subject my poor roommates to my “colorful” vocabulary at 5:30am). I took one look at the clock and felt a growing knot of gross realization: I had to wake up and go to my morning strength session with the team.
I closed the alarm, fell back to my bed for an extra minute, then reluctantly slid off the side of my bed and crawled to my dresser (no exageration). I put on my clothes and headed out the door.
I cheered up on the walk there. The crisp air hugged my bare shins and nipped at my cheeks. Sounds like I’m trying to be poetic or something, but that’s the only way to accurately describe it. The thing is, because of late night soccer practice in the fall and constant outdoors when I was a child, that “cool sensation” is something I love - it’s nostalgia.
Not to mention the rest of the world is absolutely silent. It’s still dark at six am here so I feel like I’m in some odd in-between. Not night. Not day. I really love it.
But then there’s the actual session. Oh God. Today, again, is the prime example of my love/hate for it. I love when it’s difficult and I get to do exercises I’d never even heard of or seen before. Today was circuit training then ropes. All had me pretending I was in Alpha Training or Training in Young Justice. And some of the exercises ARE fun. ….they were just also incredibly painful. I always struggle, but there is something great about that burst of energy at the end of a push. It could be that we’ve gone beyond feeling pain and from there are simply working on pure adrenaline. I love it.
also, went back to climbing after two weeks. Did a 5.9 and two 5.8s before bouldering for a bit. The staff yelled at me to stop dig 5.8s and keep doing harder climbs.
And now to make myself some oatmeal and sleep for an hour before class…
Mono literally sucks to high heaven. I’m more prone to relapsing into the virus unless I take my exercise slowly. I’ve been on one two mile run in 25 degree weather and now my throat hurts and im stuffy and feel like i have a low fever coming on. I really really really wanna work out but I’m scared of getting the full acute symptoms back. UGH a little yoga will have to suffice :/
…so I’ve been climbing pretty consistently (try 5+ times a week), and I’ve stuck to beginnger level climbs (5.6s and 5.7s), and one of the attendants pointed out a route I’ve yet to try and it’s GREAT. It involves a lot of dynamic movements and upper-body strength that really are aimed towards beginnger level climbers so it’s still REALLY fun and challenging. I was never great with lifting weights, I was determined but it’s not my favorite. I’m so glad I’ve got this. (of course I still lift when the urge hits me, but….)
And while I was climbing I heard the attendant yell “Yeah, girl you’ve got it! Look at those back muscles!” and she laughs. Then the other guys start chiming in and it was really funny and great.
I love the people there.
And then I had to rush to work (down the hall!) and I got out at midnight….then went and played soccer for a half hour with two of my guy friends….
And that yoga session and new trail I discovered? AND MY TIME FOR MY RUN AND GOING ON THE SWINGS TOO? Just yes…
Today was a good day.
And tomorrow? Girls night out!
- “No, I don’t eat fruit, I don’t want to get fat from all the sugar!”
- “Yeah, she’s pretty, but her thighs touch…”
- “I don’t lift weights. I’m not looking to get all bulky and mannish.”
- “Oatmeal? Ew.”
- “Water weight? But I haven’t had any water in, like, a week!”
- “How’s that diet going? Have you cheated yet?”
- “Oh my God, I totally binged last night. I had like THREE cookies.”
- “Peanut butter? Aren’t you on a diet?”

Maybe later tonight I’ll throw in some yoga….
=/ It’s my best friend’s father’s wake though. Of course I’m going - she’s had a familial problems and I want to be there….
….
but she hasn’t been responding to me all week, and I see her on facebook going out with other friends/her boyfriend….
really makes a girl wonder…
lol that awkward moment you take a class at the gym and an English teacher you’ve never had but always says hi to you at your school is the instructor…
I just about died. She was ridiculously beast too O.O
I literally went from a two hour dance class to an hour and half of Taekwondo……my life is comical.
Especially since my new dance teacher (who has been teaching my mother’s family for ages/begging me to join since I was a child/had my aunt as her star student/is practically an aunt herself) completley hates martial arts becuase she says it “ruins the dancer’s hip and foot” so I hid my Taekwondo bag from her while at Taekwondo I hid my ballet shoes so the guys don’t think I went all soft on them, and that I’m not still a force to be reckoned with during sparring matches….
…yep my life is comical…
I need a new weekly routine for the remainder of winter/begining of spring since I feel as though my body has become too accustomed to the one I have now. I NEED to keep two days of Taekwondo in here, though, and I wanna include yoga and dance!
Let’s see:
Monday: Running for thirty minutes (HIIT or timed miles) and yoga class (hopefully! If not yoga videos)
Tuesday: Arms and Taekwondo
Wed: Abs and Elliptical or Bike
Thursday: Taekwondo and Yoga (video)
Friday: POSSIBLE dance and legs (or rest day depending on when I’ll be going to dance)
Saturday: Elliptical, Ski machine, or Rowing warmup and weights (total body)
Sunday: If Friday ISN’T rest, then Sunday is rest day. If Friday WAS rest then today would be legs and Biking or HIIT running?
Should I have more than one rest day for the record?
Of course this depends on:
If anything I might switch around what days are what. ALSO, this is the exercise excluding anything I might be doing that day that’s active such as dance numbers at rehearsals, snowboarding, skating, going to the park with friends, sledding, walking around the city, dancing at a party etc. Let’s hope this gets my body out of this slump!
Does anyone have any suggestions though?
I’m really starting to LOVE yoga. Sure I’ve been doing thirty minute youtube beginner videos instead of finding a class, but you do what you can!
I ran 3miles in 30 minutes. Bla. Average speed is Average, but you know what? I feel GREAT. And then I did about 20 minutes of yoga. I feel really refreshed and light! :)
Now to change into PJs to cook some dinner xD
yes.
… He is making some very good points.
